Paste it here with Ctrl+V. Text stays sharp at 4:4:4, and if the PNG is smaller the page says so.

Screenshots are the hard case

A photograph is soft gradients, which is what JPEG was designed for. A screenshot is the opposite: flat panels, one-pixel rules and anti-aliased type. JPEG describes every hard edge with high-frequency coefficients, and those are the first thing quantisation rounds away, so text goes soft before anything else does.

So this page changes the recipe rather than the copy. The precision encoder writes colour at full resolution (4:4:4) at quality 92, which keeps coloured text from smearing, and the stage opens at actual pixels on the hardest-edged tile so you judge the part that matters.

Questions about screenshots

How do I paste a screenshot?
Take the screenshot to the clipboard (Print Screen, or Shift-Ctrl-Cmd-4 on a Mac, or the share sheet on a phone), then press Ctrl+V or Cmd+V on this page. The picture opens in the converter straight away. A saved screenshot file can be dropped or chosen as well.
Why does my screenshot get bigger as a JPG?
Because screenshots are flat colour with hard edges, which PNG stores very efficiently and JPEG does not. It is common for the JPG to be larger and softer at once. The page writes the JPG first, compares it with the PNG, and says so above Save with both sizes — and offers the PNG back.
Why is text blurry in other converters' JPGs?
Usually 4:2:0 colour sampling: the encoder stores colour at half resolution, and coloured text on a coloured background smears. This page uses the precision encoder at 4:4:4 — colour at full resolution — and quality 92, and reads the sampling back out of the written file.
What does the stage show first?
Your screenshot at 1:1, centred on the part with the hardest edges — usually text — because that is where JPEG blocking shows first. Switch between JPG, Split and PNG with J, S and P.
