Install once
The converter needs no server to do its work — the PNG is decoded, flattened and written in the page. So once your browser has a copy of the page itself, it needs no connection at all. A service worker keeps that copy: this site's own pages, scripts, fonts and conversion worker, listed at build time, and nothing else.
Installing is optional. It gives the converter its own icon and window; the offline copy works in an ordinary browser tab either way.
Limits
- The first visit has to be online, and so does the first visit after a new release.
- Some browsers drop saved site data after weeks without a visit, or when the device runs short of space. The panel will say so.
- Private and incognito windows do not keep the copy.
Questions about offline use
- Is there a PNG to JPG converter download?
- This page is it, without an installer. Visit once while online and your browser keeps a copy of the converter's pages, scripts and fonts. After that it opens and converts with no connection, from the browser or — if you install it — from your home screen or app list like any other app.
- How do I know it will work offline?
- The panel above reads your browser's cache and compares it with the list of files this release needs. It says “Ready to work offline” only when every one of them is there; until then it shows how many are saved.
- Does offline mode change what is sent?
- Nothing about a picture is sent online or offline: conversion always happens in the page. Offline, the page also cannot load the cookie-free page-view counter, so not even that is sent.
- How do I remove it?
- Uninstall it like any app, or clear this site's data in your browser settings. The saved copy is this site's own files, a few megabytes, and nothing else.
